Games are 7 innings.
Mercy rule: game ends if a team leads by 10 runs after 5 complete innings.
Nine players on defense. Eight players is acceptable, but anything less results in an automatic out each time the 8th batting position comes up.
Everyone bats.
Dropped third strike rule applies as per Rule Book FP8-1(b):
Batter becomes a runner when the catcher fails to catch the third strike before the ball touches the ground and
there are fewer than two outs and first base is unoccupied, or
there are two outs.
Infield fly rule is in effect.
If a player is injured and cannot bat, they are removed from the batting order for the remainder of the game unless the coach confirms they can continue before the next team at-bat.
This does not result in an out unless the team drops below nine batters.
If injured while batting, the player must reach first base on their own power; then the last out from the previous inning may run for them.
Stealing bases, including home, is allowed at all times.
Runners may lead off once the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand.
Unlimited substitutions are allowed.
Batters and runners must wear helmets with a cage.
Infielder masks are optional.
Official ball: 12” outdoor softball.
Base distances follow the current MSA rulebook; pitching distance is 43 ft.
